Our Pinot Noirs

“it's a hard grape to grow, it's thin-skinned, temperamental, ripens early. It's not a survivor like Cabernet, which can just grow anywhere and thrive even when it's neglected. No, Pinot needs constant care and attention….and in fact it can only grow in these really specific, little, tucked away corners of the world… and only the most patient and nurturing of growers can do it. Only somebody who really takes the time to understand Pinot's potential can then coax it into its fullest expression. Then its flavors, they're just the most haunting and brilliant and thrilling and subtle and... ancient on the planet."

2008 - PINOT NOIR SPLIT ROCK VINEYARD

  PURCHASE

The Art: Located in the Sonoma Coast, this vineyard benefits from a cool climate location allowing for longer ripening and added complexity. The vines are farmed using sustainable agricultural practices. We worked with several of the vineyard’s clones which in combination created a wine exhibiting aromatics of dark cherry, spice box and floral notes. The palate is sweet and broad with heady red berry and spices with a hint of roasted nuts. A creamy and supple Pinot Noir with good grip and a long finish.

The Science:

  • Harvest date: September 9, 2008
  • Brix: (sugar level) 24.0
  • Alcohol: 14.2%

A co-fermented blend of three Pinot Noir Dijon clones (115, 667 & 777) that have resulted in a whimsical wine that displays a bright and complex interplay of soil, climate, vintage and varietal with aromas of dark raspberry, black cherry and earth with a pallet equal to its aromatic profiles with a long balanced finish. While very drinkable now this densely textured Pinot Noir will benefit from additional aging.
